Does anyone have experience using a DDS drive and WaveDat?

Ok, a cry for help.

I have a Sony SDT-9000 that I updated the firmware with Sony Tape Tool to the 12.2 audio firmware. I am using an Adaptec AHA_2490AU SCSI card with the driver that is listed on Efu's page. WaveDat sees the drive. However when I load a tape WaveDat seems to not see it I guess is the best way of putting it.

I took the cover off and it loads the tape and is on the head. WaveDat goes from no tape > busy > tape changed > not ready.

Is the drive toast? Should I just get a different one? I have about 200 DATs that need transferring and would love to get it done.

Thanks in advance.
