Anybody here familiar with a audio program called ASIO4ALL?
ASIO stands for Audio Stream Input Output!

Supposedly coupled with Foobar it allows hi-quality audiophile type reproduction of lossless music despite what ones soundcard etc. may do when music files hit the kernel audio mixer.

Any help from anyone familiar with this program would;d be a big help!

ASIO is well known in pro audio, but mainly for its low latency ... not a concern when listening with f2k.

I seriously doubt ASIO will help make your soundcard sound better due to the hardware involved... but give it a shot, your ears will tell the truth more quickly than a bunch of tech mumbo jumbo!

!st needed to d-load asio dll from the foobar site and install it into foobars components folder.
D-load and install asio4all.
Launch by clicking on off-line settings options in start menu(should highlight foobar)
Launch foobar and go to file/ preferences to output.
In dialog box select output (under playback) and then ASIO Virtual Devices before clicking add new button.
In new box that appears audio device etc appears with mapping coordinates-just select one click OK save all then close.
Fire up foobar and add files to listen too--I noticed a huge difference in sound quality but I'm a child of vinyl and love the new rich sound my 'puter delivers.

in search for an improvement of the pc sounds I found these drivers

in my modest system Dell P4 3.0GHz/1MB L2Cache - 3GB RAM, Win XP SP3, I run an Audigy2. not the best but also not bad.
I only use the digital outputs (optical) 96kHz/24bits with a home-made high-quality D / A converter, old shitty hi-end JVC M-3030 with JBL L300 (home edition of the studio loudspeakers)
I have the ASIO4ALL driver installed and was surprised!
actually it sounds better to (with WinAmp ASIO output module), the sound is more open and sophisticated.
ASIO4ALL does not replace the original Audigy drivers, it takes the WDM drivers to bypassing the mixer.

it is real, better sound with ASIO4ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have test it with since the last days. more differentiated sound now.

It does improve the sound with high resolution audio assuming your soundcard can output the particular high resolution audio natively. The problem with the windows kernel audio mixer is doesn't do bit perfect outputting of audio which means everything is downsampled and such. The only way around this is to bypass the windows kernel audio mixer and by direct access to the soundcard via an asio driver. Asioforall is just a generic asio driver designed to work with soundcards that don't natively support asio. The problem is with Windows XP and older systems. Vista and 7 use a different kernel mixer and I am unsure if they have the same problems or not.
The other way around this is something called kernel streaming which foobar and winamp also support along with asio.

So, the 24/48 stuff I play sounds fantastic, but 16bit stuff sounds "clicky"? I guess I'll play my shows in 24bit.
