Splitting or Creating Tracks
So this issue has always been been something I go back and forth about.
How to Split or create tracks for shows? Since I have a large archive of recordings on cassette and digitize them, I have to deal with splitting up the huge wav files to individual tracks. At first I thought that was a lame thing to do, using my own subjective idea of where these concerts, moments in history should be spliced up. I do my best, but know that if I was to split up the same show at different time intervals that I would get different results, similar but not exact. But, I also would be slightly bugged when I was listening to a particular show if I could not just skip to the tracks I want to really hear when I am in the mood to hear my favorite tracks. I also get that if I didn't split my own shows in individual tracks, then someone else would just do it and probably it will end of torrened in a way I don't really like how it was tracked. So I just wanted to ask what is the rules with this issue or just the opinions of others here. No members have liked this post.

Re: Splitting or Creating Tracks
Man that is a good idea, I would also like to make one 24 bit and one 16 bit of each recording, BUT that is not going to happen unless someone wants to mail me a few 1TiB externals. Right now, I have 6 externals with all 1.48 TiBs being shared openly on the echoes hub. Just getting an extra HD ever so often to keep up with my new stuff and the stuff I digitize is hard enough, but making extra copies of thing would be to out of control as a space issue.

If anyone downloads it, he/she can split it anyway they see fit.

Re: Splitting or Creating Tracks
I don't think they allow you to post a torrent as one large file, so you do need to split it. General rule of thumb is to split just before the song starts, so if you want to skip to a song, you get it right at the beginning.
I usually track extended chatter, intros, etc. as a separate track.

Re: Splitting or Creating Tracks
If you are not happy with the results months or years later, you can always retrack a show. Just use shntool join mode to join the tracks together seamlessly, and use CD Wave to re-split them.

Re: Splitting or Creating Tracks
I always split a track just a second or so before that track starts.
I want to hear the song as soon as I play it. No members have liked this post.
