Newbie share ratio

I am relatively new to torrents. I am using utorrent web, and wTorrent that came with the W10 laptop. How can I increase my share ratio? I have researched the subject, but since I'm new, I don't understand a lot of the nomenclature and important subtleties.
This seems simple:
"get on a new torrent right away, don't get onto an old torrent"

Should that even be a torrent of a band/artist I don't even want?
Is it best to join a torrent with more leachers than seeders, vice versa? More completed?

Well ratio is not enforced here at TTD. Keeping a healthy ratio is preferred obviously but I would not jump on torrents that you aren't interested in, not worth the effort although it is a nice idea.

The best way to increase your ratio is to upload shows yourself or just jump on a torrent as early as possible.

Thanks Daniel. That seems simple; I will try it. Out of curiosity, if I had to pick between a couple, is it best to join a torrent with more leachers than seeders, or vice versa? Or those with more completed downloads?
I think the uploads may have to wait for a while. My library is mostly lossy. And my only attempt at jungleland was taken down because something (I think) about the vid's ancestry, a vid I had DL'd from jungleland.

Under "Your Seeding Opportunities", under "Have Leechers", U2 2009-xx-xx Berlin - Brandenburg Gate (PAL) has 15 seeders and one leecher. Under "Have No Seeders", The Who 1982-10-20 Seattle, WA (NTSC), it doesn't have any leechers, either.
I have both those vid files and torrent files, although I moved the vids to a different folder, and took one torrent file out of uTorrent web. How can I help those folks?

Choose a torrent where there are more leachers than seeders.
