Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
To me this does not look like a direct transfer from reel. The blockiness along the 16kHZ line tells me this is lossy. I can be wrong on this one so we'll see what others will say. Can we get a FA shot to confirm.

Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
If you look closely at the graph there is "noise" above 16kHz. Also the line of "blocky" @ 16 kHz seems very uneven compared to your normal lossy. Many peaks and troughs.
I hesitate to call this one. Considering the year, could BE lossless from average recording equipment. Can the poster give more info about source; IE lineage. Anyone else?

Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
Its a audience recording done on a Grundig reel to reel recorder.
After some years it was copied again to another reel which would make it a 1st gen cause the master was deteriorate. Then many years later it was transfered to a digital medium by the original taper but with the assistance of someone a bit more savvy on the modern day equipment. So the lineage should be reel master>reel 1st gen>digital Im worried though that either it was dont faulty and made lossy by accident which would surprise me considering what i know the person responsible for the transfer knows about the subject, or intentionally. Hopefully neither and its not lossy only recorded with equipment capable of giving such a spectral analysis Heres a frequency analysis pic which indicates it not lossy I would say But then what would the reasons for such blocky spectral analysis be? another spectral and frequncy of a different song same recording
unfortunately i cant in contact these days with either the original taper nor the person aiding him in the transfer so i dont have any more details beyond the master reel>1st gen reel>digital lineage No members have liked this post.

Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
Looks OK to me.
Not lossy, anyway. Looks like it was recorded with a mic with an upper end spec of 18K. Everything above 18K just seems to be noise. No members have liked this post.

What's the music sound like?

Samples or it didn't happen. Megaupload is just so easy.

Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
Now I recognize that SA pic in the first post. It appears whoever did the transfer, transferred it to Mini Disc. There is a great example in the lossy or lossless forum under the MD sticky .... Lossy in a sense but not as bad as eMPty3. Here is the sample http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/...1&d=1122376654 If i'm wrong on this one I will eat my boot and take a

Re: reel tape from 1969, lossy?
I think it's OK but hard to tell from these pics. I'd need a video, or a 10-15 sec audio sample.
