Right now, back up your computer. Look for a restore point . . . I didn't . . . Wiped out a 4 year old internal 1 terabyte hard drive . . . Praise the Lord, for external hard drives . . . I now know how to set a restore point in Win7 . . . lesson learned . . . side note, it did however clean up a lot of clutter. One odd thing was Firefox retained my bookmarks whereas chrome did not. . . .

Re: Restore Point . . .
Creating a restore point may come in handy sometimes yes. I believe windows makes a default restore point when you install new updates or particular software with the windows installer and also on a regular interval base. Keep in mind this feature only applies to the system, its files and settings etc. It won't restore data that has been lost. For that you still need to make an oldfashioned data backup.
I assume you are talking about an 1 TB internal drive. Why don't you make multiple partitions? One for your OS and one (or more) for data (music, video, documents, blabla). So that way if you screw up one partition the other(s) stay intact. Unless of course the drive itself dies on you. Furthermore you could make regular automatic updates.

Re: Restore Point . . .
The drive died. Had a feeling there was something up when I got the blue screen of death at odd times (no pattern) . . . suddenly I was asked for a restore point and I had none . . . it then booted into safe mode w/ the only option was to repair. I remember w/ XP you could just go back to a restore point. Seems Win7 deletes restore point when you boot up . . .
P.S. I did have the forethought to transfer everything worthy of keeping on to a external Hard Drive. Got four 1 terabyte external hard drives, learned that lesson years ago . . .

Re: Restore Point . . .
Restore Point Creator 3.2 Build 19
(August 31, 2015) Windows 7/8/10/Vista/XP / Freeware / 10,032 downloads Restore Point Creator will create and manage System Restore Points quickly and easily, all from a free simple program. No more drilling through multiple menus in Windows just to create a System Restore Point, now all you have to do is run this program and that's it. Follow the simple program layout and you have your System Restore Point created in no time at all. Plus, for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8, creating System Restore Points is even quicker and easier with this program. Just pin this program to the Taskbar and you have the ability to quickly create System Restore Points using one of the two pinned Tasks ("Create System Checkpoint" and "Create Custom Named") that the program creates. It's that simple. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...r/1066295839/1 The following members like this post: sonofedg

Re: Restore Point . . .
Hey, due to a restore point I was able to recover my rig. Boot in safe mode and then run your anti-everything software and after that . . . reboot . . .

Re: Restore Point . . .
I have a small SSD drive for the operating system, and all data on disk-based HDDs (internal and external) so that if the OS goes south, the data is safe. I back it all up as well...
