Sony hdrcx115 vs Panasonic HDC-TM60

I´m looking to get a new camcorder soon, i´ve been looking at Sony hdrcx115 and Panasonic HDC-TM60, they both seem nice.

Has anybody here used any of them, is there any sites where I can compare them, or does anybody have other suggestions in the same pricerange.

doesn't look like camcorderinfo.com has reviewed either of those cams...thats the best site imo for comparing cams as they do fairly extensive testing

Thanks, that´s a good place to start, the HDC-TM60 doesn´t have a mic.jack, how important is an ext.mic. with todays cameras? Is it even needed?

yes, most internal mics on consumer cams are pretty crappy, and are highly prone to clipping at high SPLs [which most concerts would be considered high- to extreme-SPLs]

according to that site, the Panasonic performs a bit better in low-light situations, however i have always preferred Sony cams to Panasonic or JVC for various reasons, as well as the fact they use Carl Zeiss lenses [some of the best]...

at quick glance [i didn't pour through all the specs closely], if i were choosing between those 2 cams i'd probly go with the Sony...just my .02

I wouldn't buy either. You should consider a camera that doesn't compress on the fly and records to tape.

Canon HV40, Canon HV30.

glad saltman brought that up, didn't even notice those weren't tape-based...so ter lookin in the $500-$600 range?

seems a lot of folks are really pleased with the Canon HV30s and 40s [i've never used one personally], but B&H has got a great deal on the HV40 right now:

I own the hv30,nice cam and its a tape based cam too,which is better for me.Regarding clipping,ive not had that problem with the hv30 as you can increase/decrease the mic volume on the hv30 which might help a lot with that problem.Im still not sure about memory based cams,maybe im an old fart who does'nt want to move on,but thats just me.

damn, too bad i'm broke. i've been wanting to get an HV40 since it does 1080p which the HV30 doesn't do. oh well, by the time i have money, that will probably be the regular price anyways.

panasonic products are usually pretty high end, sony on the other hand makes alot of junk and some high end products
