Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
I've had problems before burning DVD5s also. It isn't that just DVD9s can have problems - all of them can have problems. The thing is, you worry about it more when you are paying over $1 per DVD9 disc rather than the $0.25 for a DVD5.

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
like i forgot to turn on the external burner on or i did not put a disc in the burner?
these are the only problems i can think of with dvd5........ agreed price is a big issue........ so why make dvd9 instead of dvd5..... is there a honest reason other than saving space......... .50<1.00

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
absolutely. continuity/enjoying the show.
I dont burn DVD's anymore. There are many $100 devices that will play/upscale these videos to your television. if you break a show into 2 or 3 pieces - then you have to start/stop/start two or three times (no matter what - burn a disc or not) One big show means click and play..straight through. DVDFab will break a larger video into multiple dvd5 discs (with menu!). 2¢ No members have liked this post.

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
I once scratched a DVD-R. I put it through a CD scratch cleaner and it made it worse. I ended up having to re-burn, but I have a few huge spindles anyways Got a few coasters with the cheap-o ones.

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
Check your owner's manual for the burner ---- most will give recommedations on what type of media works best with the unit. Sometimes, they'll update what will work on the website. Media....I'm using a Lite-On burner(built like a tank!) and the only media I've had trouble with is Memorex....both single and dual layer. DL - TDK +R DL's have been working fine, despite burning at ONLY 2.4x.
Is everything else working fine burning wise? If so, then the media is the problem, not your burner. Machines are peculiar sometimes! No members have liked this post.

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
it might also help to check for any firmware updates for your burners, this some times help it handle different media brands

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
To wake this thread again...
You think I get these errors because of burner not comp. w the DVD-discs or the Burner is too old and I need a better? No members have liked this post.

Re: Burning double-layer DVD / DVD9
I don't see that you ever posted what brand of DL media you are using but that is often a major problem.
Another problem I have had is when the show I want to burn is an ISO file. For some reason those burns seem to freeze at the layer-break - I always have to extract the dvd files from that using ISOBuster and then using Verbatim DL discs I'm good to go.
