Nothing really, when I burn a CD or DVD, I always close out any open apps and just let it sit there and burn. The only extra processes that are running are those that are associated with the network I'm on, but those are very small and don't take much memory at all. In fact, it's IE that always takes up the most memory, but like I said, that gets closed. No members have liked this post.

Re: Good DVD burning software
I have had this problem on two separate occasions (except that my discs usually never finished burning because the buffer would fail). On both occasions it was because the hard drive was going bad in my laptop. I would recommend going to your drive manufacturer's website and downloading the hard drive diagnostic tools. Run them and see if you have any problems.

P.S. I tried using DVD Shrink to make a complete back-up copy of my DVD, and then tried to burn that DVD through Shrink, and I still got an error when I tested it! I give up. No members have liked this post.

Re: Good DVD burning software
When I ran Nero InfoTool, and took a look at the ASPI tab, it displays a message under ASPI that says "ASPI installation is corrupted". Do you think that might have anything to do with it? This is the system ASPI, the Nero ASPI claims to be working correctly.
And thanks by the way, I appreciate all of th feedback, you bet I do. No members have liked this post.

I did take a look at Nero's system requirements and it said that it requires at least 9 gb for temp files to burn a DVD. I have 1.5. Do you guys all have 9gb free just to burn a friggin DVD? No members have liked this post.

Re: Good DVD burning software
ok thanks for the md5, we just need one more. is that generated from the disc or from the files on your hd? another md5 from whichever one you didn't generate from will allow us to do a comparison.
also, are the results of scanning the files on your hd with dvdshrink good whereas scanning the dvd you burned they are not? oh yeah, that prob of your buffer going waaay up and waaay down is not a good sign... could possibly be a hardware issue with your burner.

I personally use 2 hard drives in my PC - 1 for system and programs, 1 for data (audio, video, etc.). The System drive has plenty of free space on it...so 9 GB is not hard to come by. No members have liked this post.
