Which CD ripper?

Hello fellow music lovers,

I recently found Easy Cd-da extractor and want to ask you if it is better at ripping a CD that the great EAC app whick we all use?

Please let em know what you think?

I just use dbpoweramp (my music converter software) which has a cd ripper function

Hello and thanks for writing. O also use DMC music converter yet I use EAC for ripping CDs. I was wanting to know which app was better, EAC or east Cd-da extractor. How good is DMC music conveted at ripping and how it is done ?

absolutely, the only ripper that should be allowed for shows ripped and seeded here....

You can't make EAC the only ripper allowed, or else people who use Macs or Linux won't be able to seed rips. The last time I checked EAC is still Windows-only.

Let's not forget about the CD Paranoia ripping utility (which is implemented in the frontends Grip [for Linux] and xACT [for Macs]). It's the equivalent of EAC for non-Windows users.

(Sorry, what you just witnessed is a typical Linux user getting pissed off at Windows users forgetting that they're not the only OS out there and that not all of their programs are going to work on other systems.)

i think that to preserve quality, we should require EAC for PC users & xACT for Mac--they've been tested and proven to be the only reliable progs for extraction...

as far as CDParanoia on Linux, i wouldn't mind seeing some test results...from what i hear its the best, but tests would be nice

So why is cdparanoia automatically accepted as okay on Macs (xACT is a frontend to the cdparanoia library) but needs to be further tested for Linux?

that's right... its in the FAQ somewhere.

99% of us are on PC and using EAC, so we sometimes forget to mention these details!

As I understand it, xACT uses cdda2wav w/lib paranoia as opposed to cdparanoia itself. How the two differ, I have very little idea, though I can never get cdparanoia to find my drive via the command line, only cdda2wav.

I believe it is the case that cdparanoia does not empty the cache between reads (in drives that cache audio, obviously) so correction is basically impossible/nullified if your drive does cache audio. I've asked xACT's author if the same situation obtains for cdda2wav and he said not, though I'd welcome further advice from knowledgeable sources.
