Let's not forget about the CD Paranoia ripping utility (which is implemented in the frontends Grip [for Linux] and xACT [for Macs]). It's the equivalent of EAC for non-Windows users. (Sorry, what you just witnessed is a typical Linux user getting pissed off at Windows users forgetting that they're not the only OS out there and that not all of their programs are going to work on other systems.) Re: Which CD ripper?
i think that to preserve quality, we should require EAC for PC users & xACT for Mac--they've been tested and proven to be the only reliable progs for extraction...
as far as CDParanoia on Linux, i wouldn't mind seeing some test results...from what i hear its the best, but tests would be nice No members have liked this post.

99% of us are on PC and using EAC, so we sometimes forget to mention these details!

I believe it is the case that cdparanoia does not empty the cache between reads (in drives that cache audio, obviously) so correction is basically impossible/nullified if your drive does cache audio. I've asked xACT's author if the same situation obtains for cdda2wav and he said not, though I'd welcome further advice from knowledgeable sources.
