Quick Mailing Question

My limited snail mail trading has only been in larger trades, and I'm not a fan of trips to or long waits at the post office. I don't know anything about size/weight restrictions, and I'm wondering roughly how many discs in a large bubble mailer I'll be able to just drop in a mailbox and roughly how much postage would run me for doing so.

What size is a large bubble mailer? And what country are sending from? And what country are you sending too? Are you forced to add insurance, signature requests or any other added extras?

Everything depends on your place on earth and where you are sending it. That's my experience at least.

In Australia, even if I could work out how much postage is, I still have to go in and sign a customs form and present id so they can prove I am not a terrorist, or if I am, so they know where I live once I have blown everything up. Cant get around it. Not sure what it is like everywhere else.

Just an fyi, back when I was trading I think two discs (each in a sleeve) where slightly less than 1.5 oz. So, four discs about 3 oz, six discs about 4.5 oz. I think the most I would send out was about eight. I would take an envelope with several discs to the post office and weight it, write it down, take a disc out, weight it, write it down, etc. That should help you. In the US, it is much cheaper to request the "Media Rate" when shipping cd-r's etc. Of course this would require a fun trip to the post office in person. The media rate is dirt cheap.

I once crammed 13 CDs into a normal-sized USPS bubble mailer, paying like $1.50 for the envelope and like 85¢ or so for first class intranational shipping. The line usually isn't too long at my post office (it varies, I suppose) and I usually fill out the address on the envelope while waiting. I've never had to deal with any weight costs or anything (benefit of the CD era), but you do have to declare it when you mail internationally, but a simple ballpark figure would be acceptable.

Thanks everyone for the help. Getting exact mailing details on the USPS site can be a bit confusing, but it looks like I can mail anything up to 13 oz. first-class by just sticking stamps on an envelope and dropping it in the mailbox. Anything above 13 oz., I could do media mail for a couple bucks with a trip to the post office. I managed to squeeze 50 discs and tons of bubblewrap in a priority mail envelope, and it came to 2lb 4.50 oz., so just about identical to what Lynne mentioned.
