best way/format to transfer high def filming
i have recently bought a sony high def camera...
if i make a transfer from the tape to the pc firewire using mpeg2 would i still get high definition or would this put back the quality to a standard resolution? hope i managed to explain what i meant... No members have liked this post.

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
No and you NEVER want to capture as mpeg2. Capture it as a .m2t (lossless). do your synching/editing with that file then render it to mpeg2.
Ideally, instead of rendering it to mpeg2...you would just burn the .m2t file to a blu-ray/hd and have 'true' high def. No members have liked this post.

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
i just got a new camera too - sony dcr-sr42 with internal hard drive but from the manual it looks like it is only capable of recording in mpeg2-ps. can someone recommend their favorite video taping FAQ?

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
Sony HD cameras (and believe that other brands too) do not record in AVI but in MPG4 AVC/H.264 format. The best results you may get with Sony Vegas, and perhaps Canopus ProCoder 3, although the last one is very costly and it's a format converter only.
BTW: forget any conversion on PC if you do not have Dual Core chip and powerful graphic card... No members have liked this post.

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
Sorry to hijack this thread, I downloaded some HD video files that are ".ts" format (transport stream?). I do not have blu-ray for burning, can I convert these files to burn as a standard SD dvd? Otherwise I guess I'll just archive these until I catch up to burning HD someday.

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
TS = transport stream doesn't require conversion but demuxing: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/secti...taltv-dvb-hdtv

Re: best way/format to transfer high def filming
once its been demuxed, how do you burn to DVD without converting it to standard mpeg2?

i guess what i shoulda asked is--when a h.264 .ts file is demuxed, the video stream is output in m2v format? [i've never messed with .ts files, my work is limited to film and dv ] No members have liked this post.
