Usenet newsgroups?

What is a usenet newgroup? it seems like scene release pay-per GB p2p? could anyone explain for me? seems kinda shady-thanks in advance-drew

newsgroups are essentially where the internet began. It started as a bulletin board of sorts and has gone onto host pictures, movies, applications, discussions, etc.

I use newsgroups daily. Just be wary it also a place for tons of spam and malware also. But those are generally easy to spot.

Usenet is easy. All you need is a newsreader and newsprovider. Something as simple as Outlook and your ISP works but they usually block many groups and limit your downloads. I use Agent Newsreader and Giganews. It cost me like 12 bucks a month but I get about 25GB worth of downloads and access to all groups. You'll get tons of pr0n, lossless, mp3, movies, TV shows, videos, text, help, support, comedy, horror, etc etc etc. There are groups devoted to everything you could want. Do some research on what groups are out there and you'll be downloading in no time.

Thank you-$12 for 25 GB aint bad-it all seems kinda confusing-the newsgroup reader is the client used to download from the specific group your on. might have to check this out

You pay for the news provider. The readers and groups are free. But like I said, an all free route gets limited access. Go to Giganews.com and check out their site for free readers and tons of FAQ's.

I found one, than you for all your help, i just couldnt find a group with any actual content, now that is did its pretty bad ass.

It can take time to find one. There are over 100K groups but only about 20K have major activity. Don't get addicted to the pr0n.

it sure is a closed community, like IRC back in the day

i couldnt even find a link on google helping me to actually find content

found a mix-tape group im grabbing some stuff off of, and of course keeping up to date on all the "news"

im just doing the trial though, ill stick to the torrent sites for now

thanks again, i just have been reluctant to figure it out for some reason, prob. cause it cost money.
