Burn MP2 to Audio CD

What is the process for burning MP2 files to CD? I know you need to convert them, and I thought to WAV but in xACT (like TLH, but for Mac) it will only let me encode them, not decode them. So does this mean I should encode the mp2 files to flac and then burn them like that? I tried encoding them to FLAC using xACT but it couldn't read the mp2 file format, so encoding to SHN, FLAC or decoding to WAV or AIFF didn't work.

Also, are mp2 files even lossless? I assume they are because I got them on a live music site so I guess they're legit...otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed. So yea, how do I burn them to Audio CD?

They are most likely lossy, what was the source a DVD? Audacity may read them and be able to export to wave. I'm not much help for the Mac programs but someone will chime in who is.

MP2 is not lossless. It is compressed audio for DVD. I'm not even sure how you ended up with a separate MP2 file. The only thing I can find is using HeadAC3he to convert them to MP3 to burn on CD. That's not ideal but it's the only solution I can find for you. Check out videohelp.com and you may find some more answers. That's where I searched.

Haha...dunno why I never bothered to really read the text file, told me what I needed to know. It IS lossy. But why would a site even allow something shared in mp2 format???? The site will remain nameless, , but you could probably guess which one it is (it's a big one)

It is an Art Blakey show from 1985. I guess it's worthless then as lossy files. I'll probably just delete it and find a lossless copy. thanks for the input.

Most radio stations which broadcast by a satellite use MP2 compression, and some AC3. It's the same as you would record a show from TV.

MP2 320 kbps is the highest quality file - depends on station but it can be / may sound better than an FM recorded on a standard tape.

Dime accepts MP2 format, but unfortunately it also allows it to be converted and seeded as flac (converted to wav/aiff).

Well, if the DVB-S broadcast is the only available source this is the best you can get. A raw (video?) bitstream demuxed to mp2. Nothing wrong then, atleast it's not cascade encoded into some other lossy format as many DVB-x recodings tend to be.

A flac-conversion of this wouldn't be any better, ofcourse.

I'm late to the discussion but iTunes converted some MP2 files I had to AAC. I probably could have converted it to another format besides AAC if desired.
