DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
Two topics here:
#1) What's the difference? My DVD+R's have played on everything. #2) My computer doesn't burn DVD-R's, and my trading partner requires them. Am I forced to invade someone else's computer? No members have liked this post.

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
DVD +R = New Tehnology = Better Tehnology
Are you sure your DVD writer doesn't burn DVD-R. I never heard of that. I mean burnin with + but not with -. Weird! No members have liked this post.

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
My old iMac would only burn DVD-R, but would play both DVD-R and DVD+R which may be similar to what your trading partners computer setup is like.
Are you sure your computer can't burn both? Most computers these days will burn and play both (I thought).

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
From my limited knowledge, it's pretty hard to believe any burner NOT burning dvd-r as that is the only official format (Red Book?). DVD+R is probably the best format - it is my uderstanding that DVD+R had much better error correction capabilities that were created after the short comings of DVD-R error correction were realized but the official (Red Book?) was never updated.

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
As for the differences between a dvd-r and a dvd+r, I saw a torrent on here (can't recall which) where the provider stated/instructed that the file be burned to a dvd-r because a dvd+r would not have enough room for it. Is this right?

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
Could the guy's burner be on the fritz? Mine is external, a couple of years old, and no longer burns at 8X, but does burn both plus and minus.

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
My computer plays both but only burns DVD+R. Why do my computer's problems always make no sense?

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
question 2 suggestion...
dont use someone elses computer, though an option. i'd recommend having him send you 50cents for each disc and just use yours. it isnt asking him to pay for the show, just the discs you have to use No members have liked this post.

Quote:
From a practical standpoint, if your set-top player will play either format disc it really doesn't matter except for the very rare disc that's too large for a DVD+R but will fit on a DVD-R (because of the 6 byte difference). No members have liked this post.

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
Wouldn't it be a lot easier all round to replace the DVD drive with a multi format unit, you can pick them up for next to nothing, and it's a really simple job to do

Re: DVD-R vs. DVD+R?
I have had *two* different Sony DVD players that would not play DVD+R. This is really stupid because Sony is one of the manufacturers that thought it was a good idea to ditch the DVD-R standard and create a non-universal DVD+R format.
So I always use DVD-R just to ensure maximum compatibility. But this kind of ticks me off because I have read that DVD+R has superior error correction technology. No members have liked this post.
