password protecting my PC?
so on my machine running XP and im having a dilemma, heres the scoop
i dont want my roomate to use my computer...but he needs the password for the actual OS so he can access SMB file share for media to streaming on the xbox...i dont really want him snooping around on my computer, using the internet, fucking with my utorrent, burning data, it just seems like an invasion of privacy, not that im hiding anything, its just principle, besides, my older iMac is a community computer in the living room, he should just use that and put up with shitty wireless anyway does anyone know of any software that is good that give me complete admin control of specific programs and all that. or maybe a USB stick code that needs to be inserted before you can access data/programs here are options ive been considering 1. put a lock on my door, he should have any reason to be in my room, and i have my lifetimes worth of data that is irreplaceable, i should have locks on my door anyway regardless 2.install software to prevent him from gaining access to my computer 3. move the xbox to my room, this would require me buying a TV ($30 off craigslist) 4. confront him and tell him i dont want him fucking around with my shit, be respectful of my belongings and tell him im nice enough to let him use the iMac and thats what he should get ive also been thinking about installing keystroke software to see exactly what he is doing while im gone really my main problem is that he closes my utorrent and reopens it right before i get home, im downloading a few 100+GB files and they have to check the data when its reopened, its just a pain in my ass that i shouldnt have to deal with, i should just put locks on my doors thanks in advance

When you get ready to leave, unplug & hide the keyboard/mouse.

Re: password protecting my PC?
Just encrypt your bestiality pr0n.
Or don't let him do anything since you don't want him snooping. I've found the best way to deal with roomates is let them get their own pipes. I've yet to deal with a mate that can deal fairly without problems.

Re: password protecting my PC?
i actually have done that before and he actually plugged in another mouse, i didnt unplug the keyboard though.
i think im just gunna change my pass and move the xbox in my room am i in the wrong? id like to think of myself as a very giving person, and really i have nothing to hide, there isnt anything on here that i dont want him to see, its kinda just the principle, i know what websites to stay away from and ive been virus free for as long as i can remember, id be super pissed if i get virus from the shit hes looking at on here, i close out all my windows and have it auto clear all my cookies and passes and history so i have no clue what hes looking at but i know hes on my shit cause hell update his facebook and shit. its just a shitty dilemma i shouldnt have to deal with

Re: password protecting my PC?
Install a keylogger and raise hell with all of his passwords. Update his facebook, send some emails, transfer some funds.

Re: password protecting my PC?
I've done that. And I didn't want to call for it unless last resorts were called for.

Re: password protecting my PC?
change your password and leave him with guest logon and verrrrrry limited privileges.
or take your ball and go home. it sounds like you've already tried to get him to stay off it, so...
