recording webcasts

To be specific, recording youtube webcasts. Youtube is planning on streaming Lollapalooza and I was curious to know if theres a way to record the stream at the quality they're sending out or if its even worth trying to record. Someone did it here with the Coachella feed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gshK5Poijps but I can't imagine that looks good on a big screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

replay media catcher works for recording archived youtube video, whether it works on a live stream will depend, and you probably wont be able to find out until the stream starts

I do this quite often.

I've been using Atubecatcher (It's free):
http://atube-catcher.en.softonic.com/
I use the screen record feature in which you trace a square around the section you wish to capture (active window).
It's pretty simple to use and works well.
The only real drawback is that it's only output format is .wmv
I recommend just capturing the small window on YT and doing it that way.
If the broadcast is YT HD it usually looks pretty good even after it's set to full screen for playback.
Word to the wise: Familiarize yourself with it first and turn the embedded YT volume to less than a quarter of it's capability and switch the default audio setting in atube to Stereo mix from the default mono setting and you'll get a good recording of the live stream. Capture a few videos beforehand to workout the bugs and see how you like it.

It's said to have more output format options etc, but I've yet to try it.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. Those two looked great but I forgot to mention I'm using a mac. But now I know what I'm looking for screen recorder, rather than a stream recorder. Thank you again!

I use this too, but don't understand capping live streams with it very well.
Any tips?
I understand the GUI on archives, but it dumbfounds me on live broadcasts.

Do you wait until the end of the stream to hit "download?"

I managed to get a minute or two recorded, but panicked and thought it wasn't working.

I ended up downloading CamTwist and recording the screen through Quicktime. Works but the picture is extremely blurry. Sorta given up on this, if anyone wants to try and team up I can record sets running the headphone jack into my zoom h1.
